Title: Hard Drive?
Post by: Cooleo on 07. Jun 2009, 20:52
As I cant Mod the Box, Its useless to me. So If I ripped out the HDD and connected it up via USB would it work or is it locked?

Thanks

Hi guys, I am also interested in getting into this as a project. And so too would be interested in getting hold of a chip (as I don't have all the tools necessary to make it).

If anyone is willing to put one together I would be happy to pay.

Thanks

;) you would also have to be fairly good at soldering as the point for the reset wire is a very small pad ! not done it yet myself as I am waiting for a chip ( RS )

I have a needle point iron, and even I found the reset pin near on impossible to get solder to stick to so I traced it back a little way and connected it a bit further up the track. I've attached a pic of my "reset" wire. Basically I moved it up the track just past the surface mount component as there was a pad with solder already on it.

For the power I used a Dremel to scrape off the top of the +3v3 point, guess there's going to be an easier point but, hey it works!

I used the same wire colours as Mick just s I didn't confuse my self. I'll be happy to supply and program chips one I get time to go get some more, but as already suggest you'll need to be reasonable with a soldering iron. Though its not a difficult intall by any means!
