Hi all, I bought a bt vision box yesterday at a car boot sale and then powered it up at home and it had a NL01 ? fault code and a message to contact BT, I have just printed the wiki so have not read it fully yet, where do you get the ATMEGA8 chip from ? I presume its an EEPROM and if so how do you program it ?  :-[

loneranger

atmega8 chips are avaliable from ebay and they are programmable throught the lpt port on your pc if you read the how-to pdf file it gives you the schematics to program and chip the vision box

Is the software freely available ?

;) First of all must go out and buy a atmega 8 chip, is it the standard DIL version and does it have any prefixes on the end as there are various types ? is  '16pu' OK.
Ps the box is a DIT 9719/05 if that helps ? do differant models require differant software ?

Hi Sparky2, I'm also just embarking on this path as well, I had one given and would like to see what I can do with it. Mine is the same hardware revision as yours - DIT9719/05.

There's a thread here - http://www.t-hack.com/forum/index.php?topic=380.msg3858#msg3858 which covers checking some resistors are present prior to fitting the chip, mine has them! :D

I've just bought a chip from eBay ... £2.43 inc free postage from China .. Bargain! Shame I can't go collect it, I'm a little impatient!

DIT9719/05 is the box to have, others need more modifications are mods are not possible due to jtag points not being there.

Software is the same for all boxes, some of the other models lack USB ports on the rear and the modem.

;)Hi lads, I have a atmega8 chip now ( RS - DIL ) so I am just going down the route of chopping some veroboard up and soldering the chip sockets in place etc, whats the 'JTAG' connector normally used for ? does it normally have a chip soldered in place ? or is it just a connection point. sparky

Herman

just a connection point, probably to install the initial bootloader which then fires the box off to install via tftp

sparky2

whats 'tftp' ? is it the operating system ?

sparky2

??? ??? ??? So data transfer then !  I could spend another 5 hrs finding out what all the other abreviations mean.  they use it to flash the program in then, thanks for that.

??? Is there 2 different 'operating systems' eg Linux or Microsoft to insert into the box for fault finding and updating ? and if so which is the best or easyist ?

Yes there is 2 options and I guess it down to personal preference, from what i can gather you'll get more from WinCE than Linux as regards functionality at the moment but I may be talking B0ll0x! I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong!

I also understand if you want to use linux you may need to take 2 pins to ground from the modchip. ;)
