I'm new to this hacking stuff so bare with me please.
Ive already seen the PDF document HOW TO.
Sounds like its not a big deal to do.
But my question is regarding the modchip itself...
Do I need MX232 (aka maxim modchip) for it?
Or its a different kind of modchip?
And how to solder them together or make them work on my VIP 1216?
It uses SMP8634LF chip...

PS: I want to turn this STB into a lan player (to play content from my pc over the ethernet port).
